On my last day in Yosemite Valley earlier this month I caught the setting moon against a mountainside. It’s hard to believe I left Yosemite almost a month ago, on June 1st when I took this morning shot. I’ve got a lot more pics to go through. #moon #moonset #yosemite #yosemitenationalpark

Bison at Sunset
It’s been mixed weather in Yellowstone but we did get a wonderful sunset the other day and these two posed for me with the sun behind them. I’ve seen bison, black bears, grizzly bears, eagle, otter, elk, coyote, wolves, and a variety of birds. I cannot wait to share some great photos with you. Shooting wildlife in #Yellowstone can be very difficult. You definitely have no control over which animals you may see and under what circumstances. And of course, you don’t want to get to close any of them. The park was busy, but for the most part, people were kind and considerate. You just need to have patience. I was caught in more than one traffic jam as people stopped to view animals along the roadside or, in some instances, as animals crossed the road. #Roadtrip Day 41. Why did the bear cross the road?
I don’t really know but after wandering around in the field on the other side he crossed the road again and then went of into the woods. I was safely in my car only about 25 yards away taking photos through the open car window. Close Encounters
I arrived at Devils Tower with the grand hopes of shooting the tower at sunset. When I arrived, the tower was enshrouded in fog. 7.5 hour drive from Yellowstone and fog! I blame aliens. Ugh. In the morning I flew the drone just before the rain arrived and caught this shot. The tower was made famous by Steven Spielberg's film, Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
This journey drawing to a close, with one more stop before returning to Iowa to see family and then off again to the Wisconsin North Woods next week. Thank you so much for following along. I have many more trip photos to share with you, so I hope you'll stick around. I've gone way over my estimated mileage of 5,333. More tomorrow morning.

Rainbow at Seljalandsfoss
Seljalandsfoss is a popular waterfall in Iceland that you can walk behind. You can see several people behind the falls to the left of the picture - small green and red dots. It faces westerly and so the setting sun can produce rainbows as it does here (to the left of the primary falls). Off to Jökulsárlón Glacier Beach tomorrow.

Icebergs and Geese, Oh My
These are Barnacle Geese swimming on Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon in southern Iceland. Jokulsarlon Glacier is on the far side of the lagoon. The ice breaks off and floats across the lagoon and sometimes out to sea through a small channel. The ice is magnificent in shades of white to blue. The black is lava ash. The geese were all resting on shore and just as we were about to leave by car they decided to leave by lagoon. They all walked to the edge and swam off, making this shot that much more unique.

Blue Ice
The blue is brilliant. I watched in amazement as one of these bergs the size of a house crumbled and the remaining part flipped over completely. Nature at work. These are icebergs floating in Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland. It's extremely difficult to convey the beauty here. The white slopes in the distance is actually the glacier. The ice brakes off and floats out in the lagoon.

Glacier Land
This is a panorama of Svínafellsjökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, the largest ice cap in Europe. It covers 8% of Iceland’s landmass. The glacier continues to slope up, curving back behind the mountains. The far upper left you can see Skaftafellsjökull in the distance. The black portions of the glacier are from volcanic ash. I love the contrast with the white, the green and the ash and even the waterfall on the right.

Diamond on the Waves
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the Diamond Beach are on the southern side of Iceland and in a word magnificent. Ice from the glacier breaks off and floats in the lagoon with some eventually heading out a small channel to the ocean. With the tides, some of this ice ends up on the black sand Diamond beach. I could spend hours in this area photographing and did. This is a fragment of a glacial iceberg at the edge of the surf just as a wave is about to hit it. The wave cloud formation in the sky behind it was just was just a coincidence but made the shot.

Everyone Look This Way
Magnificent Icelandic horses are all over the country and while I was flying the drone around I thought it would be fun to get their photo from the air. They were not spooked in the least. Although as you can see from the pic, they were curious enough to look my direction for a photo.

Welcome to Texas
I shot this in September on my way to my last Austin visit. This is actually at the I-35 Texas/Oklahoma boarder however it's been re-imagined just a bit. I've edited out I-35 and kept the service road in the shot. It's makes for a much prettier Texas, in my opinion. :) Part of the Over Austin collection at http://photos

Looking Out. Hamilton Pool Preserve
Located 3/4 mile upstream from its confluence with the Pedernales River, Hamilton Creek spills out over limestone outcroppings to create a 50-foot waterfall as it plunges into the head of a steep box canyon. The pool is located about 23 miles west of Austin, Texas off Highway 71.

Behind the Lighthouse
This is one of the reasons I love drone photography: Sending the drone out behind a lighthouse to capture a shot that you just cannot otherwise get, short of renting a chopper. Shot in Sturgeon Bay, Door County, WI.

This is a drone shot of the Sturgeon Bay Canal North Pierhead lighthouse, Door County, WI shot minutes before the ground shot posted the other day. It’s a very different mood from the air than from the ground. The expanse of Lake Michigan becomes apparent. Yes, the lighthouse is really that red.
