In 2013 I spent a day traveling the Big Sur coastline of California and it was just waaayyy too short. I could spent a month there just poking around with my camera. Clearly I'm not the only one. Here an ambitious photographer is seen against the backdrop of the Pacific.

Morning in Oil Country
A view across Galveston Bay and just some of the many industrial refineries that sprawl across the landscape east of Houston. Fred Hartman Bridge can be seen to the left. This was shortly after sunrise on an overcast day, with the sunlight straining through the clouds and reflecting off the water. We drove by several refineries and the air was thick with the acrid smell of chemicals. They call oil "black gold" and this is definitely oil country. While I don't usually apply heavy processing to my photos I thought the editing here captured the smell in the air as well as that "black gold" focus.

Behind the Lighthouse
This is one of the reasons I love drone photography: Sending the drone out behind a lighthouse to capture a shot that you just cannot otherwise get, short of renting a chopper. Shot in Sturgeon Bay, Door County, WI.

Sturgeon Bay Canal North Pierhead lighthouse and Lake Michigan
This is a drone shot of the Sturgeon Bay Canal North Pierhead lighthouse, Door County, WI shot minutes before the ground shot posted the other day. It’s a very different mood from the air than from the ground. The expanse of Lake Michigan becomes apparent. Yes, the lighthouse is really that red.

Sturgeon Bay Lighthouse at Sunset
I spent the day exploring Door County, WI shooting fall foliage from the ground and air. After a rocky start with snow flurries the weather behaved and we even got a wonderful sunset. This is Sturgeon Bay Canal North Pierhead lighthouse, Door County, WI.

Nubble Light House and Reflection
The Nubble Light is on a small island off coastal #York, #Maine. As you enter Sohier Park (a rocky point where this photo was taken) you will immediately see Nubble Light sitting atop the large rock island a few hundred feet off shore.

360 Degrees of Cold - Chicago in Winter
360 Degrees panorama shot from about 400 feet over Lake Michigan in late December with a DJI Phantom 4 Pro drone. Now I know why Chicago locals call it Chiberia.

Gone Fishin'
It's funny you how perspective can change depending on your point of view. I'm talking literally here but that statement applies psychologically as well. This photo was taken at the same time as yesterday's Lego Land Houston, except this is the opposite direction. Yesterday's post was of the Bayport Container Terminal, Port of Houston Authority. And yet, just a short distance away, in the opposite direction, the appearance of peace and tranquility. From the photo, you wouldn't know that these guys are just a 1/2 mile from the Houston Port Authority (see the previous pic on my timeline prior to this one). These four guys were just out doing some morning fishing. Beyond them you can see the channel and the ocean beyond. The overcast sky gave way to fog and haze in the background.
