Seljalandsfoss is a popular waterfall in Iceland that you can walk behind. You can see several people behind the falls to the left of the picture - small green and red dots. It faces westerly and so the setting sun can produce rainbows as it does here (to the left of the primary falls). Off to Jökulsárlón Glacier Beach tomorrow.

Behind the Falls
Seljalandsfoss Falls is a waterfall in Iceland that you can walk behind. In this sunset shot, you can make out the people behind the falls to the right of the image. You will get wet, but that's part of the fun.

Icebergs and Geese, Oh My
These are Barnacle Geese swimming on Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon in southern Iceland. Jokulsarlon Glacier is on the far side of the lagoon. The ice breaks off and floats across the lagoon and sometimes out to sea through a small channel. The ice is magnificent in shades of white to blue. The black is lava ash. The geese were all resting on shore and just as we were about to leave by car they decided to leave by lagoon. They all walked to the edge and swam off, making this shot that much more unique.

A Svínafellsjökull Selfie
This is Svínafellsjökull Glacier in Iceland. Actually this is just a tiny fraction of Svínafellsjökull but if I had pulled the drone back further you wouldn't be able to see me. The glaciers in Iceland are amazing. I shot three of them with the drone.

A Glacial Stroll
A couple stroll in front of Skaftafellsjökull Glacier in Iceland. As you can see, they’re at the leading edge of the glacier which extends back up into the clouds.

Blue Ice
The blue is brilliant. I watched in amazement as one of these bergs the size of a house crumbled and the remaining part flipped over completely. Nature at work. These are icebergs floating in Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Iceland. It's extremely difficult to convey the beauty here. The white slopes in the distance is actually the glacier. The ice brakes off and floats out in the lagoon.

Glacier Land
This is a panorama of Svínafellsjökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, the largest ice cap in Europe. It covers 8% of Iceland’s landmass. The glacier continues to slope up, curving back behind the mountains. The far upper left you can see Skaftafellsjökull in the distance. The black portions of the glacier are from volcanic ash. I love the contrast with the white, the green and the ash and even the waterfall on the right.

Diamond on the Waves
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the Diamond Beach are on the southern side of Iceland and in a word magnificent. Ice from the glacier breaks off and floats in the lagoon with some eventually heading out a small channel to the ocean. With the tides, some of this ice ends up on the black sand Diamond beach. I could spend hours in this area photographing and did. This is a fragment of a glacial iceberg at the edge of the surf just as a wave is about to hit it. The wave cloud formation in the sky behind it was just was just a coincidence but made the shot.

Family Portrait
At 11 at night, in the cold and wind, I dragged my daughters out to this waterfall to take photos. Looks can be deceiving, that small section of the falls to the right of us actually drops down about 39 feet to the pool below. Goðafoss Waterfall in Northern Iceland.

Hverfjall, Iceland
We swung by Hverfjall today and I took the drone up to capture this shot. Hverfjall is tuff ring volcano, formed 2500 years old during a volcanic eruption. The crater is about 1 km in diameter and 140 meters deep. That small white dot in front of it, at the base, next to the pond is our rental car. This whole area is littered with volcanoes and lava formations.

A Crack in the Earth
This is a shot of the the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates come together in Iceland. It's the only place where these tectonic plates can be seen on land, and you can walk between them. And while they look amazing from the ground, an aerial view shows just how massive this crack in the earth looks. Note the automobile road to the right of the photo. The right half of the crack is in this photo is the Eurasian plate and the left half is the North American plate. The plates move apart at approximately 2.5 centimeters a year has they have for thousands of years. This was shot just outside of Thingvellir National Park.

At the Base of Gluggafoss (self portrait)
It rained off and on here in Iceland today. More on than off but during the breaks I visited some waterfalls and horses (more on the horses later). This is the base of Gluggafoss waterfall, a small out of the way waterfall that I think is just great. I wish I had had more time to explore it further. It's just after 1am here as I post this. Time for some sleep and then I may hike up the side of Gluggafoss to the top in the morning - if it's not raining.

Everyone Look This Way
Magnificent Icelandic horses are all over the country and while I was flying the drone around I thought it would be fun to get their photo from the air. They were not spooked in the least. Although as you can see from the pic, they were curious enough to look my direction for a photo.

Gluggafoss aka Merkjárfoss via Drone
Actually a series of waterfalls. For a sense of scale see the stairstep, walking path to the left, at the bottom. This was one of my favorite falls due to its complexity. Unfortunately the weather was bad and I only had a short time here before it rained and the wind picked up to 35mph.

Seljalandsfoss from the Air
Seljalandsfoss is one of more popular of Iceland's waterfalls. You can easily walk behind it, passing from one side to another. No drones are allowed near the falls so I moved some distance away before taking off to capture this shot. It's hard sometimes to give perspective with the drone. In order to do so here, I included the car park with several cars in this photograph. It gives you better idea of the size of Seljalandsfoss and the surrounding Icelandic landscape. The falls drop 200 feet from the cliff edge.

Perseids, Windmill at Dawn
I spent the night watching nature's fireworks, the Perseids Meteor Shower. They did not disappoint and I lost count how many I saw. They were so prolific you could even see them as dawn approached. Time for a nap.

You don't usually get to see an airshow at sunset. It makes for some interesting pictures. Last night at Fly Ottumwa.

Crepuscular Rays
I saw sunset was going to be a good one and headed out to see what I could capture. A couple of blocks away spotted this cross at the top of the church and by then the rays were emanating from the sun. Light rays. Cross. Sometimes it's all about where you position the flying camera that makes the shot.

Welcome to Texas
I shot this in September on my way to my last Austin visit. This is actually at the I-35 Texas/Oklahoma boarder however it's been re-imagined just a bit. I've edited out I-35 and kept the service road in the shot. It's makes for a much prettier Texas, in my opinion. :) Part of the Over Austin collection at http://photos
Looking Out. Hamilton Pool Preserve
Located 3/4 mile upstream from its confluence with the Pedernales River, Hamilton Creek spills out over limestone outcroppings to create a 50-foot waterfall as it plunges into the head of a steep box canyon. The pool is located about 23 miles west of Austin, Texas off Highway 71.

Alone on the Mississippi
I spent yesterday following the Mississippi River north just exploring and enjoying fall. I found this lone fisherman on the river at sunset. Today I'll turn northeast, heading deeper into Wisconsin, away from the river and explore the North Woods.
