Fisher Towers are a series of towers made of Cutler sandstone capped with Moenkopi sandstone and caked with a stucco of red mud located near Moab, Utah. The Towers are named for a miner who lived near them in the 1880s. The closest one in this photo is more than 1,000 feet high.

Apparition
On my tour of Antelope Canyon this week I captured this apparition, clearly a human figure, bent slightly, facing left, doing something. It was gone moments later.
Antelope is a slot canyon on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona. #UpperAntelopeCanyon, a slot canyon on #Navajo land east of Page, #Arizona. This is a shot looking straight up. If you’re new to following me, now is as good a time as any to tell you that I've sold my home, put my belongings in storage and I'm using this year to travel and take photos.

Hanging Over The Edge?
Sunset at Horseshoe Bend in Arizona where you can actually walk right up to the edge of this 1,000 ft high cliff. That’s the Colorado River down there. The dot to the left of my left shoe is kayak. There were easily several hundred people on this ledge with me watching sunset. Many of them were photographers so I had to do something unique with my sunset shot. It felt great to sit down and stretch out my legs. Road trip day 12. I’m on a 40+ day, 5,000+ mile #roadtrip of the western United States. ?#horseshoebend

Moonlit Canyon and Milky Way Core
You’ve not seen anything until you’ve seen the Grand Canyon lit by moonlight. The clouds would not behave, but in the end I had an hour where they cleared up and the first quarter moon shown down into the canyon while the Milky Way rose. And then, all too soon, the clouds once again hid the moon and the canyon was again plunged into darkness. The silly part was, I had the entire canyon all to myself. I did not see a single sole out that night. Road trip day 15. Magical Moonbow and the Big Dipper
Last night's full moon provided a very brief and rare occurrence at Lower Yosemite Falls - a moonbow! - and with the Big Dipper in the sky right above. Moonbows only occur when the moon is bright enough, it's in the proper position, there are no clouds, and the waterfall in question has enough water flowing and is generating enough mist. Climbers on the Wall
In Yosemite, after the sunset, you could see the lights of the climbers on El Capitan. This was shot around the full moon. The dots on the rock wall (I count 17) are climbers at night. It usually takes climbers 3-5 days to make it to the top which is 3,000 feet high. So, yep, they have to sleep on the wall. To sleep, climbers are in sleeping bags and wearing harnesses and are attached to the wall with a rope and anchor. Some sleep on a "portaledge" (short for "portable ledge"), a collapsible metal cot that attaches to an anchor. You can see Half Dome to the right. I shot this and enjoyed the night for a while and then went to sleep in my bed in the lodge for the night :) Thanks to Yosemite Conservancy for the information about climbers sleeping details.

Yosemite Moonbow and Reflection
When I was in Yosemite in May I got to witness and shoot the rare moonbow on Yosemite Falls. A couple of months ago I posted the a moonbow over the lower falls with the Big Dipper overhead. In this shot you see the moonbow across the upper falls and the reflection below in the marsh. Moonbows only occur when the moon is bright enough, it's in the proper position, there are no clouds, and the waterfall in question has enough water flowing and is generating enough mist.

On my last day in Yosemite Valley earlier this month I caught the setting moon against a mountainside. It’s hard to believe I left Yosemite almost a month ago, on June 1st when I took this morning shot. I’ve got a lot more pics to go through. #moon #moonset #yosemite #yosemitenationalpark

Lost Lake and Mt. Hood at Sunset Drone Shot
I spent last night in the serene quiet of Lost Lake, Oregon. It was so quiet I was not going to fly the drone. You could hear people talking from across the lake. But someone else took off a few feet from me so I figured the silence was already broken. #Roadtrip Day 31. I’m on a 40+ day, 5,000+ mile #roadtrip of the western United States. #lostlake #mthood

Bison at Sunset
It’s been mixed weather in Yellowstone but we did get a wonderful sunset the other day and these two posed for me with the sun behind them. I’ve seen bison, black bears, grizzly bears, eagle, otter, elk, coyote, wolves, and a variety of birds. I cannot wait to share some great photos with you. Shooting wildlife in #Yellowstone can be very difficult. You definitely have no control over which animals you may see and under what circumstances. And of course, you don’t want to get to close any of them. The park was busy, but for the most part, people were kind and considerate. You just need to have patience. I was caught in more than one traffic jam as people stopped to view animals along the roadside or, in some instances, as animals crossed the road. #Roadtrip Day 41. Rainbow at Seljalandsfoss
Seljalandsfoss is a popular waterfall in Iceland that you can walk behind. You can see several people behind the falls to the left of the picture - small green and red dots. It faces westerly and so the setting sun can produce rainbows as it does here (to the left of the primary falls). Off to Jökulsárlón Glacier Beach tomorrow.

Icebergs and Geese, Oh My
These are Barnacle Geese swimming on Jokulsarlon Glacier Lagoon in southern Iceland. Jokulsarlon Glacier is on the far side of the lagoon. The ice breaks off and floats across the lagoon and sometimes out to sea through a small channel. The ice is magnificent in shades of white to blue. The black is lava ash. The geese were all resting on shore and just as we were about to leave by car they decided to leave by lagoon. They all walked to the edge and swam off, making this shot that much more unique.

Glacier Land
This is a panorama of Svínafellsjökull, an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, the largest ice cap in Europe. It covers 8% of Iceland’s landmass. The glacier continues to slope up, curving back behind the mountains. The far upper left you can see Skaftafellsjökull in the distance. The black portions of the glacier are from volcanic ash. I love the contrast with the white, the green and the ash and even the waterfall on the right.

Diamond on the Waves
Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the Diamond Beach are on the southern side of Iceland and in a word magnificent. Ice from the glacier breaks off and floats in the lagoon with some eventually heading out a small channel to the ocean. With the tides, some of this ice ends up on the black sand Diamond beach. I could spend hours in this area photographing and did. This is a fragment of a glacial iceberg at the edge of the surf just as a wave is about to hit it. The wave cloud formation in the sky behind it was just was just a coincidence but made the shot.
